Projects:

Biennale y Brycheiniog

We have been selected to develop an ambitious proposal towards creating a bi-annual season of digital art and design for Brecon, with funding support fromMedia Cymru and business development from PDR and Alacrity Foundation. We will have six months to conduct research into a digital-arts biennale for the dark winter months, showcasing creativity, innovation and engaging diverse audiences. The three research elements are local organisations and business consultation, public engagement, and curatorial and technical research. Our findings will feed into a business plan.

We are so excited about this and will spend the first part of 2025 exploring digital art and design, consulting with potential partners and talking to our community about what they would like to see and experience. We are delighted to be working with Tantrwm and Carla Rapaport CIC on this project.

This is a Media Cymru project. Media Cymru is a collaboration to make Cardiff Capital Region a global hub for media innovation.

Shining a light on Gwenllian Morgan

Gwenllian Morgan was Wales’ first female mayor, elected to Brecon’s town council in 1912. During her Mayoral year, the women of Brecon contributed donations to raise sufficient funds that were used to commission a portrait of Gwenllian that still hangs in the Guild Hall in Brecon. We’re delighted to be working with Ysgol Golwg Pen y Fan in Brecon to explore the amazing life of Gwenllian Morgan. In partnership with Brecon Story, The Muse Agency will collate historic material such as photographs and newspaper clippings, to create a fun, engaging, and contemporary learning programme for schools that facilitates KS2 curriculum targets.

This project is supported by Bannau Brycheiniog Sustainable Development Fund

The Third Space: Art Studio

The Muse Agency is working to create a “third space” for young people offering creative opportunities and resources. These could be expanded to other groups and individuals as needed.

Brecon in Bits

Brecon High School students worked with us to explore street art as a creative discipline. We looked at local and national street art, then made our own stencils that were inspired by the built environment of Brecon.

The work was displayed at Theatr Brycheiniog and was liked so much by the Brecon Buzz (local business) community, that they asked to use the artwork on a series of banners celebrating the town.

Brecon in Print

Students at Brecon High School worked with artistJamie Tobin to explore thediscinplineof printing. Thegroup visited Brecon Town Center and a local printmakers’ studio. They went on to make a fantastic series of artworks, inspired by the local built environment.

Artscape

A programme of outdoor art was co-created with theBrecon community with a series of artists including digital, sound, dance, performance and visual creative practitioners. The work responded to local ecosystems and nature, and brought in specialist science researchers to work alongside artists and participants

Brecon Digital Art Collective

We presented a piece of work by Welsh digital artist NyeThompson in this empty shop window, after dark, for a few months during the winter of 2022. Insulae (Of the Island),is a digitally reconstructed, unending journey that tours the coast line of Britain. It was a huge topic of conversation for the customers of the late-night bar located opposite the empty shop
